So now we are in the pre-planning stages for her Kidney Transplant and are very confident for a successful operation.  However, her transplant will be done in California at Cedars Sinai Medical Center.

Why all the way in California?

Our mom needs immunotherapy and Plasmapheresis; we were told that Cedars is one of two hospitals in the nation that specializes in these types of therapy and in order to have a successful transplant we need to take her there.

Welcome to our mom’s web page.  Many of you know her from her alma mater of Ajo High School, Ajo, Arizona or when we were residing in Morenci, Arizona.  Now her and my father, Juan “Johnny” Lopez, reside in Tempe, Arizona.

Actually we all just live about 15 minutes away from each other.  My brother, Juan “Big John” “Mano” Lopez, Jr., his girlfriend, Lynette Martin, and their son, Juan “Clettie” III reside in Mesa. I, Sylvia Lopez, also reside in Mesa along with my boyfriend, Mark Cordova, and our daughter, Santana.

As many of you know all of our mom’s illnesses are Diabetes related and without proper diet and exercise she was unable to control her Diabetes and unfortunately she has now had many health issues.

Her first complication was with her vision; after many laser treatments she now has severe tunnel vision.  She also has limited vision in her left eye and some vision with her right.  She is classified as legally blind and no longer drives.

Three years ago she underwent emergency bypass surgery and 5 of her arteries were bypassed.  We thank God everyday that she never had a heart attack and her cardiologist is amazed at how strong her heart muscle is, however, due to the Morphine her kidneys went into organ failure and she then needed several dialysis treatments.

We were told that from that day on she was going to have to stay on dialysis but, with the power of prayer she has been able to maintain the kidney function that she does have and is stable.  Her nephrologist, Dr. Mandeep Sahani, (Who is awesome!) is amazed at how long it has been since she had her dialysis treatment and at how she has been able to stabilize her kidney failure.  Her kidneys are only functioning at 9% each (18% total) and this is why she needs the transplant.
